Spider-Man: No Way Home

One of the most highly anticipated films of the year came to the cinema. Tom Holland and Zendaya team up for another Spiderman film. Can it top Spider-Man homecoming and Spider-Man Far From Home?

Spoiler alert before we even discuss the movie, it can. This is a fantastic ending to the Spider-Man trilogy and inarguably one of my favorite marvel films to date. This may have cracked my top three, along with Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok.

This movie is truly a great piece of cinema. A blast from the past type of movie. A fantastic transition from Spider-Man: Far From Home, where Mysterio reveals Spider-Man’s true identity at the end of the film (Peter Parker who?).

Mysterio in Spider-Man Far From Home

When thinking about plots of Marvel movies you always have to kind of displace your mind for a little bit because they can be a bit silly, but once you get past the fact that most of the issues that arise in the film can be easily fixed “Hey Dr. Strange, can you just make everyone forget that Mysterio revealed my identity?”…end of movie. However, that wouldn’t be fun and then we wouldn’t be introduced to the multiverse, which opens up so much for the MCU (Dr. Strange 2 especially).

Some great acting as always from Zendaya and Tom Holland, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch who come to find out is not actually the sorcerer supreme, (congratulations, Wong). Tom Holland has slowly earned my love and admiration and may be my favorite Spider-Man currently. Benedict Cumberbatch has also earned my admiration as his dry wit and humor area hilarious touch to the goofiness of Tom Holland. I do wish there was a bit more Wong in the movie, but his few minute scene in the movie was still a great addition.

Seeing Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield all together was truly a remarkable sight. The scenes where they were all introduced through the portal had the audience going crazy every time I went to see the movie (several times). We all knew they would show up in the film and yet it was still amazing. Andrew Garfield’s goofiness in the movie was really well taken by fans and the amazing Spider-Man movies have gotten some more love recently because of it. Tobey Maguire, who was once my favorite Spider-Man; has more of a serious adult tone throughout the movie…which makes sense as he’s the oldest of the three. None the less he did a great job as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man’s “father-like” figure in the movie. Both Tobey and Andrew share some hilarious moments together, including the scene where Tobey tells Andrew that “you are amazing, and I need to hear you say it”. These two are not only on a mission to help Tom, they’re also out for their own redemption. Perhaps my favorite scene in the movie is Andrew Garfields’s Spider-Man saving Zendaya from falling off the building…redemption from his previous failure.

Seeing the old villains of the all of the spider-men was great for the viewers; even if you weren’t completely familiar with the old films. They introduced each character in a well-timed way where it didn’t seem overwhelming for the viewer. The trailer spoiled a bit of who was going to be in the movie, but I never could’ve guessed who else would’ve made an appearance (well done Sony).

The CGI in the movie is phenomenal and there truly isn’t any scenes that are lack luster like some previous marvel films. The action scenes are both great and action packed, as well as funny at the same time, which is Marvel’s specialty (Tom Holland’s first interaction with Doc Ock). The ending is a bit unexpected from some previous Marvel films as it doesn’t really have a feel good ending, which I enjoy sometimes in movies.

Recommendation and Final Rating (9.5/10)

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I highly recommend going to see this film, even if you haven’t seen the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spider-Man films. You’ll enjoy every second of this film. If this it for Tom Holland and Spider-Man, he went out with a bang.
